Open-House Day
Multiple locations

The Jewish Museum Vienna opened in 1895 as the first Jewish museum in the world. We invite you to an Open House at both of our locations, featuring free admission and an exciting program of guided tours!
Museum Dorotheergasse
10:00
Museum Moves: As part of the guided tour, simple Feldenkrais exercises will be introduced. They invite you to directly explore your own walking, standing, and perception within the exhibition space. The body thus becomes a space of resonance for the exhibition and the artworks themselves. This creates an approach to the exhibition’s themes that goes beyond thinking and unfolds through a shared experience in the room.
12:00 / 14:00 / 16:00
Experience a very special kind of tour through the permanent exhibition with Out and About in Our City! Across three floors, you decide what we talk about, ask questions you have never asked before, and even play a game of "I spy." You have never seen this permanent exhibition quite like this...
10:30 – 17:30
Echad, shtayim, shalosh!
Just like 1, 2, 3, you will learn to count to three and a whole lot more: that there are letters in the Hebrew alphabet wearing "formal evening gowns" and that the vowels only look complicated at first glance. Because it is much easier than you think, you will definitely learn how to write your own name in our mini-course. Join in and learn whenever and for as long as you like.
11:00 / 13:00 / 15:00 / 17:00
Exhibition Talks in the Temporary Exhibition: A Muslim, a Christian and a Jew – Eran Shakine
Salam, Grüß Gott, and Shalom—accompanied by three gentlemen in tailcoats and top hats, this tour takes you through the first floor to explore the big and small questions of everyday life. You will certainly find out why happiness is often hard to spot and which direction the sun shines. Pencils, paper, and the wall itself also invite you to sketch along, comment, and share your thoughts.
If you prefer to explore the museum on your own, we highly recommend the multimedia guide, which provides a story for almost every object.
Museum Judenplatz
10:00 / 12:00 / 14:00 / 16:00
Guided Tour: Above & Below
Experience what lies beneath Judenplatz! This tour takes you from Judenplatz straight down into the museum. Walk from the present back into the past and discover the key historical milestones surrounding the first and second Jewish communities in Vienna.
11:00 / 13:00 / 15:00
Exhibition Talks in the Temporary Exhibition: "Homeless. Viennese Jews in Exile."
Follow several Viennese locals on their journeys out of Vienna, paths that rarely led them back to "their" city. Walk alongside them and their personal stories through both the history and the present of this city.
14:00 / 16:00
Do it yourself: The Rabbi on the Road
With "The Rabbi on the Road," visitors of all ages—from children and teenagers to adults—can experience a specially created short play. Follow the rabbi from Vienna to Krems and discover fascinating details about medieval Jewish history.
Those who prefer to navigate the museum on their own should try out our "scratch-card stations." If you complete all the activities, a small gift awaits you at the ticket counter. Don't be fooled by appearances—this activity is by no means just for children...
