Dr. Barbara Staudinger Reappointed for Another Five Years
by JMW
We warmly congratulate our Director, Dr. Barbara Staudinger, on her unanimous reappointment as Managing Director of the Jewish Museum Vienna for another five-year term.
Since 2022, Barbara Staudinger has led the museum with a distinguished program of exhibitions, innovative educational initiatives, and a strong commitment to connecting history with contemporary issues. She will now continue this successful work in the years ahead.
Barbara Staudinger:
“I would like to sincerely thank everyone for the trust they have placed in me, and I am delighted to be able to continue working with and for my wonderful team at the Jewish Museum Vienna for another five years. We have many exciting plans for the coming years: thought-provoking exhibitions that look to the present and the future, a wide range of educational programs that allow visitors to engage more deeply with the museum’s themes, and high-profile events. This autumn, we will launch the museum’s new visual identity, and as a small preview of what lies ahead, visitors can already look forward to a refreshed permanent exhibition at our Dorotheergasse location from autumn 2027. One of the defining qualities of the Jewish Museum Vienna is its close relationship with its visitors. This is something we will continue to foster. You will therefore continue to encounter me at guided tours, events, and talks - not only sharing stories, but also listening. For me, museums are social spaces where people come together and engage with the issues of our time.”
The City of Vienna and Wien Holding also welcomed the unanimous decision to reappoint the museum’s director.
“The Jewish Museum Vienna is an important place for Jewish history and contemporary Jewish life and an integral part of Vienna’s cultural landscape. Barbara Staudinger has succeeded in making historical topics accessible to a broad audience and appealing to different generations. I am delighted that she will continue on this path,” said Vice Mayor Barbara Novak.
“Over the past years, Barbara Staudinger has given the Jewish Museum Vienna a clear identity. With great professional expertise, curiosity, and a keen sense of contemporary social debates, she has successfully connected Jewish history and the present day while continually opening up new perspectives. In doing so, she has further strengthened the museum as a vibrant and relevant institution within our city. I am very pleased that Barbara Staudinger will continue her outstanding work and shape the Jewish Museum Vienna in the years to come,” said Vienna’s Executive City Councillor for Culture, Veronica Kaup-Hasler.
“The unanimous decision of the selection committee is a strong vote of confidence in Barbara Staudinger and her work. The Jewish Museum Vienna is an important place for engaging with the history of our city. I look forward to the new impulses that Barbara Staudinger will bring in the years ahead,” said Karin Ramser, Managing Director of Wien Holding.
